We thought it might be fun to do something a little special for kids at the cabin. Every winter large log sections float down the San Lorenzo River during the heavy rains season. The logs and branches are free for Santa Cruz residents to take to use for firewood or any purpose they can think of. We had 4 of the biggest "butt logs" ( sections that come from the base of the tree ) hauled up to the cabin. Then we had prominent "Chainsaw" artist Timothy Robins come down and turn the big logs into little houses for kids to play in.  (Tim is the same guy that carved out the bears that greet vacationers and the bears in the bench on the front deck). We like the results:
