Twain Harte is a wonderful Sierra mountian getaway for family and friends,
all times of the year.
One of its attributes is that it's "off the beaten track", nice and
peaceful and quiet, but still only 2-3 hours drive from the Bay Area. It is
at the gateway to the Sonora Pass recreation area, loaded with lakes,
rivers, hiking,biking, fishing, swimming and other watersports. Not to
mention, fantastic views and great dining all around in Twain Harte and the
surrounding area, as well as loads of shopping opportunities in the
historic gold rush town of Sonora only 15 minutes away. But still, Twain
Harte has one of the best locally owned grocery stores and variety drugs
stores you could hope to find.
Our home has a private membership at Twain Harte Lake, just a short
distance down the hill, where parents and kids can have the best of times
frolicking in the lakes waters, at this best kept special place. Pinecrest
Lake near Dodge Ridge ski area, 20 minutes away, is without a doubt one of
the prettiest family friendly lakes in the Sierras, where hiking, swimming,
fishing, boating, sailing and kayaking are all possible with relative ease.
And the outdoor summer nighttime "movies under the stars" at the lakes
picnic area are always a special family treat! For the golfers in the
family, Twain Harte has its own tree-studded course that runs right through
the town's gorgeous forested setting.
And down near Sonora, there are some very expansive, hilly courses. Even
the gamblers can get their
fun at the Black Oak Casino 20 minutes away in the Indian reservation town
of Tuolomne City.
